One Year to Spanish Fluency – 60-Week Interactive Plan
In my YouTube video, How to Learn Spanish (and speak it) in Less than a Year, I recommended that you use 3 main Spanish resources and a few helper resources to begin (or resume) your Spanish journey,
- Complete Spanish Step-by-Step, physical copy
- Complete Spanish Step-by-Step, audiobook
- Destinos: An Introduction to Spanish
Then, I recommended that you take those 3 main resources and break them down into a spreadsheet or notebook over a year into 1-hour, daily tasks so that you complete them twice.
But, if you're more excited about studying Spanish than building out spreadsheets, don't worry.
This is exactly why I built out the “One Year to Spanish Fluency — 60-week Plan.”
What does the plan do?
The plan breaks down the 30 chapters of the physical version of Complete Spanish Step-by-Step, the 30 chapters of the audio version of Complete Spanish Step-by-Step, and Destinos' 52 telenovela episodes into 2 phases, each including manageable 1 hour per day study “chunks” over a period of 60 weeks (scroll through the screenshots at the top of the page).
The tasks are broken down into daily tasks that focus your learning on:
- learning the language through active learning and reading in Spanish (doing the workbook exercises and later converting Spanish into English and then English back into Spanish)
- active listening and speaking (listening to the audiobook, speaking audiobook exercise answers aloud, converting English back into Spanish via spoken translations)
- passive listening (listening to Spanish in context while also learning about the Spanish culture)
Following this plan will allow you to READ, COMPREHEND and SPEAK Spanish confidently in less than one year.
This plan is about building confidence. And after completing this plan, continuing your studies will be a much more pleasurable process, allowing you to enjoyably continue expanding on your fluency over time.
What does the plan include?
- An Interactive personal Dashboard: Your personal dashboard includes phase-specific gauges, a total progress doughnut, and a quick view of your hours invested and weeks completed. This beautiful dashboard allows you to quickly share your progress with others and quickly allows you to see how many tasks you’ve completed towards building your Spanish fluency. After completing all your tasks, your completion doughnut turns 100% green, and you’ll have earned the coveted “100% complete” confetti message. 😊
- A Phase 1 sheet: This sheet includes all your tasks for the first phase of your studies. It includes 30 weeks of daily tasks with checkboxes, auto-dates, and a column where you can add your actual (versus estimated) hours spent per task (this allows you to accurately account for your Spanish study time). Each time you complete a task, your interactive dashboard updates. Also, this sheet includes quick web links to all the Destinos episodes and the pre-built Quizlet flash cards that include almost all the vocabulary in Complete Spanish Step-by-Step.
- A Phase 2 sheet: Like the Phase 1 sheet, this sheet includes all your tasks for the second phase of your studies and quick links to all the Destinos episodes.
- A “Hidden” Study Engine: This sheet is the engine that makes your dashboard operate. You can quickly view the raw data of your hours invested in your Spanish studies.
What are the benefits of buying this plan?
- This pre-made plan saves you hours of planning out how to break down the recommended study resources, allowing you to focus on learning rather than building spreadsheets.
- It breaks down what I believe are the most effective Spanish study resources into daily manageable chunks that you can actually follow, which prevents “feeling stuck,” and it builds consistent habits.
- It reduces decision fatigue. You’ll know exactly what to do daily, ending guesswork and enabling immediate action.
- Checking the “completion” boxes provides a sense of accomplishment, boosting motivation.
- You can track your daily gains, helping you see improvements that will build your confidence.
- It helps you prevent burnout by capping you at just the daily task you need to complete (though you can always do your own extra listening on the side).
- It allows easy sharing for group motivation. Quickly let others visually see your beautiful dashboard that also shows the number of hours you’ve been working towards your goal of Spanish fluency.
But wait, what are the benefits of using the Resources I Recommend with This Plan?
- Complete Spanish Step-by-Step book and audiobook - Builds a strong grammar foundation through progressive lessons that stick, making complex concepts feel simple and logical.
- Destinos telenovela - Trains your ear with real-life conversations and stories, turning passive watching into active comprehension without tedious drills.
- Quizlet Flashcard decks - Locks in vocabulary efficiently with targeted flashcards, allowing quick reviews that reinforce memory over time.
- SpanishDict translation tool - Provides instant feedback on speaking and pronunciation, helping you sound more natural and catch errors on the spot.
- All sources combined - Combines input (reading/listening) and output (speaking/translation) for balanced fluency, accelerating real-world confidence.

*To be clear, fluency means different things to different people and how "fluent" you become within a year is based on several factors including your time commitment, your ability to recall material, and more (Watch this video, How Long Does It Take to Reach Spanish Fluency, for more details). I am not promising native-level speaking or saying that you will understand everything you hear. THIS MAY, AND WILL LIKELY, TAKE YOU MUCH LONGER THAN A YEAR. The only thing that I can guarantee is after completing this plan you will have a VERY STRONG command of the Spanish language and SHOULD be able to confidently understand and handle many Spanish conversations.
